San Francisco is filled with world-class restaurants, with restaurants regularly gaining recognition from around the globe. The MICHELIN Guide, one of the most trusted and prestigious restaurant guides, recently released new additions to their coveted guide.
A total of 13 California restaurants were added to the list inn the July release, three of which are based in San Francisco. Azalina’s, Tiya, and Hed 11 were the SF newcomers to the list.
New SF additions to the MICHELIN Guide
Azalina’s is a Malaysian restaurant that was recently a semi-finalist for the James Beard Award, another impressive accolade. The restaurant is reservation only, serving a four-course fixed menu by Chef Azalina. The menu changes every four weeks, and the MICHELIN guide states, “Quality ingredients and creativity are hallmarks” of the ever-changing menu.
Tiya, the result of a collaboration between brothers, serves Indian cuisine in a chic, elegant space. The restaurant offers a tasting menu and a la carte options for diners and notably has an impressive craft cocktail menu inspired by SF.
Hed 11, an upscale Thai restaurant, offers an expansive 11-course tasting menu, which changes with the seasons. Diners can expect plenty of seafood, with this season’s menu containing 85% seafood dishes.
2024 SF MICHELIN Guide additions
These aren’t the first SF restaurants of the year to make the MICHELIN Guide. 7 Adams received the distinction in March 2024 after opening in 2023. The restaurant serves a 5-course menu for $87 and even offers a special dining experience at the Chef’s Counter, which only seats six people a night.
Additionally, several Bay area hotels were awarded with the MICHELIN Guide’s new award Keys. The guide’s Keys are given to exceptional hotels and were just released in 2024. A total of 7 Bay Area hotels were recognized, including the Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco at Embarcadero, The Battery, 1 Hotel, and Hotel Drisco in San Francisco.
