Studio Ghibli has established itself as an iconic film studio, creating beloved movies directed and written by Hayao Miyazaki. The studio’s titles include Academy Award winner Spirited Away, Ponyo, and, most recently, The Boy and the Heron.
Now, AMC is hosting a Studio Ghibli Fest, screening some of the studio’s most iconic movies this fall. Here’s where to catch a Studio Ghibli film in a San Francisco theater.
Studio Ghibli Fest San Francisco
AMC will host screenings of Princess Mononoke starting on September 26 through September 30. Viewers will have the option to see the film dubbed in English or in the original Japanese with English subtitles. You can see the movie at the AMC Metreon 16, or various theaters throughout the Bay Area.
Then, starting Saturday, October 17, theaters will have screenings of the beloved movie Spirited Away. The screenings will run until Wednesday, October 21, and viewers will once again have the choice between a dubbed English version and the original with English subtitles. Spirited Away is a beloved, family-friendly film that follows a young girl’s adventure through the spirit world. The movie won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
The Castro Theater recently hosted an anniversary screening of Spirited Away, but AMC’s multiple screenings are the perfect chance to see the movie on the big screen. We recommend buying tickets in advance to secure your preferred showtime.
