San Francisco is turning Union Square into a sparkling tribute to Dolly Parton this Friday.
“Dolly Day” will take place on Friday, September 25 (9-2-5), from noon to 3 p.m., welcoming anyone to come enjoy live performances, tribute acts, DJs, and plenty of rhinestones.
Organizers are planning a joyful gathering to honor Dolly, encouraging guests to dress up in their best sparkly outfits, big hair, ruffles, and cowboy hats.
The event arrives as California lawmakers move to officially recognize September 25 as Dolly Parton Day, honoring Parton’s legacy and literacy work.
More than 182,000 Californian children are currently enrolled in the singer’s Imagination Library, which sends free books to kids from birth through age five.
The program just launched in San Francisco last year. According to the Dolly Day event announcement, it’s already served more than 11,000 local kids and mailed over 64,000 books.
“Dolly Day isn’t about mourning,” said event organizer Matt “Haze” Kaftor of Gold Digger Records. “It’s about coming together to celebrate everything she gave us, loudly and proudly, the way she’d want it.”
