Uniqlo is officially returning to Downtown San Francisco after closing its store in 2021. The major retailer is now reopening a massive, 20,315-square-foot store on Market Street. The store officially opens today, and to celebrate, Uniqlo is hosting a free street festival.
Uniqlo Free Street Festival
The free festival is Friday, October 9, and will run from 11 am to 6 pm at 801 Market Street. Attendees can expect a lineup of DJs, along with activations on the street from local organizations like SCRAP, Exploratorium, the SF Public Library, and more. The local organizations will host workshops and activities like street soccer, crafting, and games. You can also expect food and drink venues at the celebration, including Tad’s Steakhouse and Parachute Bakery.
The street festival will also feature six cube-shaped art installations resembling Uniqlo’s logo. The new store will be the largest on the West Coast and will sell exclusive merch in collaboration with SFMTA and SFUSD’s Ruth Asawa San Francisco School of the Arts with local artists.
“San Francisco has always been a place that inspires us—full of creativity, new ideas, and people who care deeply about their city,” said Fuminori Adachi, Uniqlo United States CEO, in a recent statement. “Uniqlo is investing in downtown because we believe in its future and want to be part of the energy returning to the neighborhood. The city has been a thoughtful and supportive partner throughout the process, and we’re excited to bring a welcoming store experience to the people who live, work, and visit here.”
The festival and store opening are today, October 9, and will run until 6 pm. If you can’t make it to the festival, we recommend checking out the new store (with SF-inspired merch) at 801 Market Street.
