On Wednesday, October 17, the USDA announced a massive recall of meat and poultry products. The recall came from Kayem Foods Inc., a company based in Massachusetts, which recalled 1,584,361 pounds of meat.
Why was the meat and poultry? recalled?
The recall was due to “temperature abuse,” which essentially means that the meat was stored at an improper temperature. The problem was first raised on October 1, when a customer noticed the meat was delivered warm. The company determined that some of the products were stored in a cooler that had temperature deviations. The recalled products were ready-to-eat products that were shipped nationwide.
What brands were impacted?
The recalled products were sold under 9 different brands, and ranged from products like hot dogs to bacon.
Impacted brands:
- Kayem
- Al Fresco
- Triple M
- McKenzie
- Deutschmacher
- Essem
- Genoa
- Jordan’s
- Winnisimmet
