It’s a big summer for legendary director Christopher Nolan. His latest film, The Odyssey, is set to premiere this July, with a star-studded cast including Zendaya, Tom Holland, Robert Paterson, Anne Hathaway, and more.
Now, a historic San Francisco movie theater has announced it will be renamed to honor the director. Alamo Drafthouse’s San Francisco flagship theater in the Mission District will be renamed The Christopher Nolan Cinema.
“San Francisco’s New Mission has been an icon of cinema for more than a century, and under the leadership of Alamo Drafthouse it stands at the apex of cinematic presentation, whether you’re a filmmaker or an audience member,” Christopher Nolan says. “To be honored in this way, and with this particular theater, is a thrill beyond words. I am grateful to Alamo Drafthouse Cinema for their passion and commitment to creating an ideal cinematic experience that celebrates and elevates this art form that we all love,” according to a recent post on Instagram by the theater.
Later this year, the theater will. host a special 70mm screening with Nolan in attendance. This isn’t the first Alamo Drafthouse Theater named after a prominent Hollywood figure. Other locations have been named after Spike Lee, John Hughes, Ivan Reitman, Bong Joon Ho, and Pam Grier.
Alamo theaters are known for serving food and drinks during the screenings, with a menu featuring pizza, burgers, wings, and more. They also offer a full menu of cocktails, wine, and beer. Waiters come right to your seats during the movie to take your order.
The Odyssey premieres on July 17 and will be screened at the Alamo Draft House theater in SF. The film will be shown in IMAX 70mm in San Francisco for select dates, and you can learn more and get tickets here.
