This June, one of San Francisco’s most popular free events is returning. Every summer, crowds of San Franciscans gather in various parks for free outdoor movie screenings, and the first event is later this month. Keep reading for all the details.
Sundown Cinema 2026
Sundown Cinema has five screenings scheduled in 2026 for June through October. All the movies are family-friendly, and screenings are open to all ages. The series will return later this month, on June 12, with a screening of the beloved fantasy film The Princess Bride in Dolores Park. The 1987 film is a fairy-tale adventure and has become a classic over the years. Other movies on the schedule include Inside Out, The Parent Trap, and School of Rock. The final screening of the year will be Beetlejuice in October, perfect for getting in the Halloween spirit.
Each movie will be shown at an outdoor venue in San Francisco, in various neighborhoods around the city. We recommend bringing a picnic blanket or lawn chairs to sit on during the movies, and be sure to wear layers to stay warm.

No tickets are required to attend, however you can RSVP in advance for a chance to sit in a special reserved seating section near the big screen. In previous years, the movie series was hosted by a nonprofit SF Parks Alliance, but is now being hosted by the San Francisco Standard.
