The SF Asian Art Museum is opening an exciting new exhibition Beyond Bollywood: 2000 Years of Dance in Art on Friday, March 31st.
To celebrate this incredible exhibition, they’ve partnered with the legendary dance party, Non Stop Bhangra, to help celebrate the new exhibition on Saturday, April 8, from 6-10pm.
Non Stop Bhangra is one of the popular dance parties in the Bay Area and will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2024. Their events highlight the ancestral roots of the Punjabi dance while pushing boundaries with contemporary influences. North Indian Bhangra music mixed with reggae, hip-hop, and electronica. Group dance lessons are part of the event for anyone who wants to learn some new moves.
The new exhibition Beyond Bollywood: 2000 Years of Dance in Art opens on Friday, March 31st, and invites you to discover the power of dance in the visual arts of India, Southeast Asia, and the Himalayas, where dancing plays a significant role in religion, mythology, and ceremony.
The exhibit draws from more than 120 artworks borrowed from 20 of the finest museums and private collections across the globe. This multimedia showcase of dance will feature a wide array of historic and contemporary sculpture, painting, textiles, jewelry, photographs, and more.
Beyond Bollywood: 2000 Years of Dance in Art opens on Friday, March 31 and the Non Stop Bhangra party will take place on Saturday, April 6.
