Early Thursday afternoon, BART published a “May The Fourth Be With You” event on its Eventbrite page. And within just 2.5 hours, the Star Wars-themed event was already sold out—promising 200 lucky people an otherworldly 90-minute ride featuring live music, a costume contest, and cosmic decor throughout the trains.
This is one of numerous themed events that BART has started to roll out at its trains and stations, from an adorable speed dating event in February to last year’s fashion show using old paper BART tickets.
So, what’s going on? And how can you get in the loop before the next event sells out?
BART updates its page of “Fun Stuff” with links to each event on Eventbrite—you can follow Bay Area Rapid Transit District on Eventbrite to get email and app notifications when they post a new event. BART also recommends signing up for “BART News” emails.
At the moment, eager attendees have already sold out both the aforementioned “May The Fourth” event on May 4th, as well as a “BART Train Expedition” on May 3rd, where poet-naturalist Obi Kauffman will host a voyage focused on local natural history. All the more reason to keep an eye out and RSVP as soon as you see the next one.
One upcoming activation does not require RSVP, however: Riders are invited to take public transit on Tuesday, May 6th for All Aboard Bay Area Transit Day. Personnel will be out and about giving away free stickers and swag items.
And in addition to the on-board events, BART also hosts some gatherings outside of the trains and stations. Just this week, Heath Maddox, BART Manager of Bicycle and Micromobility Access Programs, hosted a bike-and-birdwatching trip from the North Berkeley BART station that also sold out.
BART spokesperson Alicia Trost told SFGATE that plans are in the works for more on-board events, such as drag shows, silent discos, and an event for “The Big Game” between Cal and Stanford in November.
