Think you can see the entire BART system in one afternoon?
This Sunday, September 6, BART is hosting its annual speedrun in partnership with the California High School Transit Alliance, challenging participants to visit all 50 BART stations across 131 miles of track in roughly six hours.
The speedrun is timed to celebrate both BART’s 54th birthday and California Speedrun Day, and organizers hope it will become the largest group transit speedrun ever.
Last year, 70 people participated in the speedrun, which organizers believe was already the biggest group to speedrun a transit system. This year’s riders are aiming to beat that turnout, and anyone can join.
2026 BART Speedrun
The group meets at 10:20 AM at the Berryessa/North San Jose station to catch the 10:37 AM Orange Line train. The full six-hour challenge hits every single station on all six routes, finishing on the Yellow Line at Antioch at 4:32 PM.
Experienced speedrunners will lead the ride, helping participants navigate transfers through every station as efficiently as possible. BART representatives will join along the way, while riders can participate in transit trivia for themed prizes.
Participants are welcome to take on the entire ride or join for just a section. Riders should load at least $12.15 onto their Clipper card and use the bathroom beforehand.
The BART speedrun is a precise puzzle of connections, transfer timing, and system knowledge, touching every station as quickly as possible from the South Bay through San Francisco and the East Bay.
Since 2012, BART has hosted more than 25 known speedrun attempts, with the current BART record set at a remarkably fast 5 hours, 9 minutes, and 35 seconds in October 2024.

BART Transit Month
The September 6 event is also part of the regionwide Transit Month celebration, which spotlights public transportation through activities and community events around the Bay Area, including the following:
- Sept. 1-30: Ride Contest – Participants can track their ridership for a chance to win BART model train cars, holiday sweaters, and more.
- Sept. 11: Ride-Along with Transit CEOs – Riders are invited to join a ride-along with BART General Manager Bob Powers and regional transit CEOs.
- Sept. 12-13: Rapid Transit History Center Exhibit at Western Railway Museum – A new interactive exhibit featuring legacy BART cars.
- Sept. 15: All Aboard Transit Day – BART will give out special tickets and swag to riders
- Sept. 19: Let’s Glow! BART Anime Festival – A celebration of anime and cosplay at Warm Springs/South Fremont Station.
