Bay FC, the Bay Area’s professional women’s soccer team, played their first game at Oracle Park today. The team was established just over two years ago in April of 2023, and they typically play home games in San Jose. Today, the team played an exciting match in Oracle Park against the Washington Spirit.
The highly anticipated game expected attendance to surpass 35,000 people, breaking the previous record held by Wrigley Field with 35,038 fans. The match today had 40,091 fans in attendance at the Oracle Park game. This is the highest attendance for an NWSL match since the league’s inception in 2013. The record-breaking attendance is not only a major milestone for Bay FC, but for women ‘s sports in general, which have been quickly growing in popularity.
The game ended with the Washington Spirit winning by one point, with the final score at 2-3. Bay FC has several more home matches scheduled for the season, with the next one just a few weeks away on September 6 at PayPal Park.

Bay FC’s inaugural season was in 2024, with 18,000 fans in attendance for their inaugural match at PayPal Park in March 2024. The Bay Area also recently added another professional women’s sports team, the Golden State Valkyries who debuted this year. The Valkyries also had record-breaking attendance, becoming the first WNBA team to average over 18,000 fans across their first three home games.
