At a swanky event in Sacramento on Wednesday, the Michelin Guide revealed its newly-starred restaurants in California for 2025. The state’s most esteemed chefs, restaurateurs, and industry figures gathered for the highly anticipated presentation, which resulted in nine California restaurants receiving Michelin stars, including three here in the Bay Area. Los Angeles also reached a milestone, with two restaurants receiving three Michelin stars for the first time in the city’s history. Keep reading for everything you should know.
Newly starred Michelin restaurants in the Bay Area
Enclos
Sonoma’s new entry, Enclos, has been awarded two Michelin stars for its opulent, contemporary tasting menu served in an 1880 Victorian building. Chef Brian Limoges’ dedication to sustainable food practices has also earned Enclos a Green star.

Kiln
San Francisco’s Nordic-inspired restaurant Kiln has been awarded a second Michelin star. Chef John Wesley and general manager Julianna Yang implement unique preservation techniques for a creative and compellingly simple menu.

Sun Moon Studio
Chefs Alan Hsu and Sarah Cooper present a delicious Californian menu in their inconspicuous Oakland restaurant, which has earned its first Michelin star. From wild mushrooms to Dungeness crab, California’s bounty is on full display in their artfully prepared menu.

More newly starred Michelin restaurants in California
In addition to the above illustrious Bay Area restaurants, the Michelin Guide awarded 2025 stars to another six fantastic California eateries.
Los Angeles restaurants Somni and Providence became the city’s first restaurants to receive three Michelin stars. The newly-opened Somni made an exciting debut by earning all three stars immediately, standing out for its Spanish-inspired contemporary menu. Meanwhile, Providence has secured its third Michelin star after two decades as an L.A. seafood institution.
A handful of outstanding California restaurants round out the list, having earned their first Michelin star. Los Angeles has two: Restaurant Ki, which offers contemporary Korean cuisine in a ten-seat restaurant in Little Tokyo, and Mori Nozomi, a minimalist eight-seat sushi counter in Sawtelle. Carlsbad’s Lilo earned its first star with its tasty Californian menu, as did Santa Barbara’s Silvers Omakase, which serves fantastic sushi and Japanese dishes.
Finally, like Enclos, SF’s Sons & Daughters was also awarded a new Michelin Green star for the team’s dedication to sustainability.
