Every month, a few blocks in Downtown San Francisco are shut down to host a free block party, drawing thousands of attendees and major headliners. The block parties feature live music, DJs, dancing, local vendors, and other fun activities. Here’s what to know for August.
Downtown First Thursdays August 2026

Downtown First Thursdays is back for August, bringing another exciting block party featuring special guest Eric Rhodes. The DJ is best known for his mashups of hip-hop, country, and current hits, and he is set to take the main stage at 7:30 pm on Thursday, August 6. Along with Rhode’s DJ set, you can also expect the Discoteca on Jesse and 2nd Street to have a packed lineup of DJs throughout the night, and DJs at the Natoma Dance Hall between 8:30 and 9:30 pm.
If you feel like learning something new, you can check out line dancing lessons from Lower Haight Line Dancing. Plus, head to the 111 Minna Gallery for a group art show, music, and drinks. Other activities include a Rodeo Booth, Screen Printing, a whimsical variety show, and more. Finally, attendees can expect various vendors and participating bars and restaurants in the area, perfect for grabbing a bite or drink while enjoying the festivities.
Downtown First Thursdays run from 5 to 10 pm and are open to all ages. Entry is free, and no ticket is required. The block party takes place on 2nd Street between Howard and Market in the Financial District, and we recommend taking public transportation due to the high volume of people attending.
