Four-time NBA Champion Draymond Green is getting into the restaurant business. Green is well known as an impressive defensive player, currently playing for the Bay Area’s Golden State Warriors. Now, the professional basketball player is opening a new restaurant right in San Francisco.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported that Green is opening an Ethiopian fusion restaurant named Meski this March. Green is partnering with Guma Fassil and Nelson German on the new restaurant. Fossil currently owns a popular Ethiopian restaurant in Berkeley, while German is known for his time on Top Chef and his bar Sobre Mesa in Oakland.
The vision for the restaurant is a luxe destination that serves as a place to celebrate and honor Black culture. Diners can expect a menu focusing on a fusion of Ethiopian and Afro-Latin foods and flavors. The partners envision a stylish, fun place for people to enjoy the food. Taking over the space that previously housed bar Members Only, the two-story restaurant will feature a formal dining room upstairs and a lounge below, according to the SF Chronicle.
Meski is located in Lower Nob Hill and is set to open in early March 2025. The restaurant will open from 5 to 11 pm on Sundays through Thursdays. On the weekend, diners can look forward to the option of dining later in the evening (a rarity in SF), with the restaurant open until midnight and the bar open until 1 am. Green isn’t the only celebrity in the Bay Area with a restaurant; many A-listers have waded into the culinary world—namely Francis Ford Coppola and Susan Sarandon.
News of Green’s new restaurant comes just a day after it was announced he may be able to return to playing after an injury that has left him out of 7 games this season. Green last played on January 18, before leaving the game due to an injury. Stay tuned for more updates on the anticipated restaurant, and look out for pop-ups from the partners before the official opening date.
