San Francisco’s Presidio is getting its first taproom!
Last month, the Presidio Trust signed a lease with Fieldwork Brewing Company for a commercial restaurant property at 563 Ruger Street, near the Lombard Gate. The property includes approximately 5,370 square feet of indoor space, 1,780 square feet of outdoor deck, and on-site parking.
Fieldwork plans to operate a full beverage program, including craft beer, cocktails, and non-alcoholic options, alongside a full-service food menu and a specialty brunch offering.
The taproom is projected to open in early 2027, adding to a growing lineup of food and beverage destinations inside one of San Francisco’s most visited green spaces.
Founded in Berkeley in 2014, Fieldwork has grown to ten locations across Northern California. The Presidio outpost will be its third in San Francisco, joining existing taprooms at China Basin Park and Mission Rock.
The Presidio currently hosts 15 places to eat, more than 350 businesses, and over 3,000 residents. As a financially self-sustaining park, it funds its own operations through real estate and hospitality leases like this one.
The Presidio Mess Hall
Fieldwork’s arrival follows another significant development in the Presidio’s dining landscape. The Presidio Mess Hall, a 6,200-square-foot food hall helmed by James Beard-winning chef Peter Serpico, is due to open any time now inside a historic former U.S. Army building at Presidio Tunnel Tops.
The space will house three fast-casual concepts — Korean cuisine from Boda, fresh seafood from Dayboat Seafood, and sandwiches and burgers from Breadwinner — all operating out of a shared central kitchen. A retail market, a café serving Wrecking Ball Coffee Roasters, and a full bar round out the offering, with an additional 2,700-square-foot patio.
While the Mess Hall was originally scheduled to open in June 2026, it’s still undergoing final touches, and the Presidio has not yet revealed an updated opening date.
