San Francisco is notorious for its foggy summers. The annual 4th of July fireworks show on the bay is a favorite tradition of the city, and cloudy skies that obscure the fireworks are some of the event’s most loyal guests.
The Bay Area is experiencing a heat wave, with plenty of sunshine and high temperatures predicted over the next several days, including the 4th of July. This is good news for San Franciscans who want to enjoy the annual fireworks show on Thursday night.
Fisherman’s Wharf Fireworks show
San Francisco’s official celebration of the fourth is a firework show on the bay, launched from barges near Fisherman’s Wharf. The show starts at 9:30 pm and is scheduled to last 20 minutes. Even though the weather is expected to be a high of 85 degrees, the waterfront on SF is known to be chilly, so make sure you bring an extra layer and blankets.
Public viewing areas of the show include Pier 39, Aquatic Park, and the walkway on Pier 43. You can also purchase tickets to view the show from Pier 45 if you want to guarantee a spot.
Where to watch the fireworks show in SF… besides Fisherman’s Wharf
If the crowds at Fisherman’s Wharf during the show don’t sound appealing, there are still plenty of great spots to watch the show. We asked our readers where they like to watch the fireworks each year, and here are a few popular recommendations.
- Coit Tower parking lot
- Crissy Field
- Treasure Island
- Sutro Tower
If you’re lucky enough to have access to a boat, many people recommend watching from the water so you can take in the skyline as well. Plus, any large hill in the city can also be a good vantage point, especially if you don’t want to venture far from home.
