Saunas are a longstanding tradition originating in Finland, and their popularity has spread immensely across the world. If you love a cold plunge followed by a warm sauna, you now have the chance to try a unique, new sauna in the Bay Area.
A beautiful new floating sauna, called Fjord, recently debuted on the SF Bay in Sausalito. The floating sauna is designed for guests to take a cold plunge in the bay, then warm up in the sauna while enjoying the views. Fjord has two traditional Finnish-style saunas that can seat six people each. Both saunas allow “Löyly,” which is when you can pour water over hot coals to create steam in the room.

The target temperature for each sauna is a steamy 190 degrees Fahrenheit, ideal for warming up after plunging in the cold water. While the vessel is in an active marina, Fjord has a designated area for people to safely plunge into the bay, complete with showers to rinse off after your swim. You can choose between the north or south sauna, with the former offering dramatic views but less deck space. The south sauna is set back from the water, offering a larger deck that is ideal for groups. The saunas are open rain or shine, and you can enjoy them every day except Tuesdays.

The floating sauna sits on Richardson Bay in Sausalito, just a short drive north of San Francisco. The small vessel with the saunas includes decks and showers, and each sauna has a large window designed for enjoying the view of the secluded bay. Fjord offers drop-ins for the saunas, where you can share them with others. If you plan on going with a group, you can also book a private session for up to 6 people. Single, drop-in sessions cost $45, and private reservations cost $240.
You can learn more and book the sauna on the Fjord website.
