This weekend, 25 thousand people flocked to Civic Center Plaza to dance. Dance music favorites Fred Again… and Skrillex held a rave in the center of downtown after announcing the show with only a few days’ notice via a tweet.
SF didn’t disappoint, with the show selling out all 25 thousand tickets instantly. The sunset set began at 6:30 pm, but there were eager ravers waiting to be let in by 5:00 pm. The entire block of the plaza was shut off, with ample food trucks lining the closed streets for the eager ravers.
The plaza was packed, with Skrillex opening the set by reminiscing about his time in San Francisco and his excitement about playing in the park. Fans climbed the trees for a better view of the DJs through the crowd; some people were even spotted on the upper ledges of city hall.
Anderson .Paak was the surprise guest, much to the crowd’s delight, as he performed with Fred again… their new track “Places To Be,” which was released on Friday before the concert. The show included a rendition of “Rumble” Fred again… and Skrillex’s first collaboration. The DJs first met when working on projects for Ed Sheeran and, since then, have become frequent collaborators.
If you weren’t able to attend the show (tickets were unsurprisingly very difficult to get), you’re in luck. Fred again… has three more shows scheduled for the Bay Area this week. The British DJ is playing at the Frost Amphitheater in Stanford, California, Tuesday through Thursday this week. Tickets for shows are going fast, so we recommend getting them as soon as you can if you want to attend. The show starts at 7:00 pm in the outdoor amphitheater, with lawn seating for general admission.
Skrillex has tour dates scheduled in Europe this summer, and he will return to the states for Lollapalooza in Chicago. You can catch Anderson .Paak performing in SF this September at Portola festival.
