One of San Francisco’s most popular free block parties is back this week, with a lineup of DJs, local food vendors, and plenty of fun activities. The monthly block parties, Downtown First Thursdays, are celebrating the beginning of October this week by shutting down several blocks in SF’s Financial District.
Downtown First Thursdays October 2026

On Thursday, October 1, Downtown San Francisco will shut down five blocks for a free block party with music, drinks, and dancing. The monthly block party is known to draw large crowds, showcasing local businesses while guest performers take the main stage.
This month’s featured performer is Mr. Carmack, who will play from 8 to 9 pm on the Howard and 2nd Street stage. Carmack is originally from San Francisco, and his music is a blend of dance music and hip hop.
Other activities to look out for include a Discoteca with DJs and drag performances, plus dancing at the Natoma Dance Hall. Stop by the Howard Street outdoor bar for happy hour between 5 and 7 pm, with $8 beers and $12 margaritas. Plenty of local food vendors will be in attendance, including Peaches Patties, Bini’s Kitchen, and Sunrise Deli.

While you’re in the area, we recommend stopping by MoAD, which will offer free admission from 4 to 8 pm. The Living Room Bar will have a Vinyl night, and Art Gallery 111 Minna will have a DJ accompanying their latest art show.
The free block party is free and open to all ages and will run from 5 to 10 pm. We recommend taking public transit to the block party, as it can be difficult to find parking in the area due to the many attendees. Downtown First Thursdays is located on 2nd Street between Market and Howard in San Francisco.
