Every year, the historic Fairmont Hotel’s lobby is decked out for the holidays, with a massive tree, lights, and for many, the main event: a massive, 22-foot gingerbread house. The gingerbread house draws visitors to the lobby every year with its detailed, creative design; it takes making a gingerbread house to a whole new level.
The gingerbread house will open next week, on Saturday, November 22. The hotel will host an opening ceremony for the sugary creation, starting at 11 am. The hotel also offers options to actually dine inside the house, with options for dinner, holiday tea, breakfast, and more. Dinner in the gingerbread house can host up to 10 guests for 2 hours, with a pre-fix menu available. A holiday tea reservation can fit the same number of people, and you can add on champagne and caviar if you want an extra luxurious experience. The dining experiences are typically a splurge, with dinner costing a minimum of $1,000, but you can still visit the lobby and see the house for free all throughout the holiday season.

Creating the iconic gingerbread house starts in October, and it takes over 500 hours to build. The walls are made of 8.000 gingerbread bricks, held together by frosting. Thousands of pounds of candy are used to adorn the walls, placed carefully to create the house’s design. The final result is a massive, two-story gingerbread house right in the lobby. You can also expect to see the massive, 23-foot-tall tree right next to the house.
The Fairmont also hosts numerous other holiday events starting later this month, including a winter market on the hotel’s scenic rooftop, from November 28 through 30, featuring unique local vendors. You can learn more about holidays at the Fairmont here.
