This weekend, an iconic tradition is returning to Golden Gate Park, bringing an afternoon of comedy. San Franciscans can enjoy five hours of comedy from dozens of comedians on an outdoor stage, and it’s all free. Here’s what to know.
Comedy Day in San Francisco
Comedy Day celebrates 45 years of bringing free comedy performances to Golden Gate Park. This year’s event is on Sunday, August 20, from 12 to 5 pm. The comedy festival will take place in Robin Williams Meadow, a fitting location due to the iconic comedian once performing at the festival.
The five-hour event will feature 50 comedians performing in the park. The event is open to all ages, and we recommend bringing a picnic blanket to sit and enjoy the show. Check out the full lineup and performer schedule.
Comedy Day first debuted in 1981, and over the years, it has featured close to 1,000 comedians for thousands of attendees. The festival has boasted major comedians on the lineup in past years, including Robin Williams, Bobby Slayton, Brian Copeland, and more. Jose Simon started the comedy festival, inspired by the city’s many free concerts, originally starting in the Golden Gate Park Bandshell before moving to the Polo Field, and finally settling in Robin Williams Meadow for the last 20 years.
Plus, just a short walk away, the Haight Ashbury Street Fair will take over Haight Street with live music, street vendors, and more.
