As the year comes to a close, it’s the perfect time to look back at what San Franciscans wanted to know. Google released its Local Year In Search 2023 for San Francisco, and there are some interesting topics on the list. Take a look back on the year in trending Google searches for 2023 with us.
SF ranked 2nd in the U.S. in trending searches for “earthquake near me.”
The Bay Area is known for its earthquakes, so it’s no surprise this was a top trending search. It’s not uncommon for the Bay Area to have very small earthquakes that are often unnoticeable, but some with higher magnitudes caught the attention of Bay Area residents. Recently there was a 4.1 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Northern California in November and a 3.7 one in the Bay Area in late October.
The top 5 trending “near me searches” included air quality and haircuts
“Air quality near me” was a top trending search for San Francisco in 2023. In September, San Francisco had an air quality alert for several days. The alert was issued due to smoke from wildfires in Oregon drifting to the Bay Area. The remaining top five “near me” searches are as follows:
- “Earthquake near me”
- “pawn shop near me”
- “power outage near me”
- “haircut near me”
It was a big year for Concerts in San Francisco.
Many significant artists had world tours in 2023, and San Francisco was often a destination. San Franciscan’s top five tour-related searches included Taylor Swift’s Era’s Tour taking the top spot– Santa Clara was even renamed “Swiftie Clara” for the concert weekend–and Beyonce’s Renaissance World Tour followed in second place. It’s All a Blur, Doble P Tour, and The Celebration Tour were the remaining top 5 searches.
San Franciscans were really interested in The Glory
The psychological thriller show on Netflix seems to have captivated SF’s interest. According to Google, “The San Francisco, CA area ranked 1st in the U.S. in top trending searches for the glory”. The show was 3rd in the top 5 trending TV shows, with The Last of Us in first and Beef in second.
