The free block parties are continuing in San Francisco, this time with a western twist. Hoedown on Front Street debuted last month with a packed block party featuring line dancing, country music, and crowds of San Franciscans enjoying the entertainment zone.
The western-themed event takes place on the first Thursday of every month, coinciding with Downtown First Thursdays that have been widely popular in their first year. The events are part of efforts to revitalize Downtown SF, bring free public events to build community, and bolster businesses in the area.
“Downtown First Thursdays has already proven that joy is both contagious and a solid economic development strategy. The 2nd Street block party has already delivered $11.9 million in direct economic benefit to downtown and we’re just getting started. I can’t wait to see what the Downtown Hoedown brings to Front Street,” said Manny Yekutiel, Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Civic Joy Fund.
Now, Downtown First Thursdays has expanded to include the lively western block party. “We’re bringing everything you love about country western and the Bay Area together to create magic in the streets,” said Katy Birnbaum, CEO and Founder of Into The Streets, a local event production company that partners with nonprofit Civic Joy Fund.
The next hoedown is scheduled for Thursday, June 5th, from 4-9 pm. Performers for the upcoming event have not yet been announced, but you can look forward to live music during the party. The debut event included line dancing lessons, a mechanical bull, and rodeo-themed games. Participating bars, Harrington’s Bar and Grill, Schroeder’s, and Royal Exchange, will be serving drinks you can take to go inside the block party.
The event is free, but you can RSVP in advance online to get $3 off a cocktail from the outdoor bars. Come dressed in your western best at the next hoedown and enjoy the free festivities.
