Commuters and travelers crossing between Solano and Contra Costa Counties face a major disruption on I-80 this weekend.
Caltrans has scheduled a full closure of the westbound I-80 Carquinez (Alfred Zampa Memorial) Bridge beginning Friday, August 21, 2026, at 10:00 PM, with lanes set to reopen by Monday, August 24, 2026, at 3:00 AM.
The pedestrian and bicycle path on the bridge will also be closed for the entire weekend.
Eastbound traffic from Contra Costa County to Vallejo will not be affected by the closure.
What are they working on?
Construction crews will use the 53-hour window to repave the entire westbound bridge deck, a comprehensive rehabilitation effort affecting the full span between Vallejo and Crockett.
At the same time, Caltrans maintenance teams will conduct additional work along the Vallejo corridor from the foot of the bridge to Highway 780, such as vegetation control, litter removal, and graffiti cleanup.
What are the detours?
Caltrans has outlined two primary detour scenarios for motorists traveling westbound from Sacramento, as detailed in the below maps.
Regional traffic should use westbound I-680 to bypass the bridge closure, while local traffic should generally use I-780, I-680, and SR-4.
