As of this month, all Californians can access over 200 state parks for free with a library card thanks to the Outdoors for All Initiative. California State Parks and the California State Library made the announcement that the California State Library Parks Pass is now available at public libraries throughout the state, in an effort to provide safe and equitable access to the outdoors for CA residents.
These new passes will unlock a huge portion of California’s breathtaking natural beauty for more than 23 million CA residents with library cards. Nature is shown to have positive impacts on general health, environmental awareness as well as historical and cultural connections which in turn could have a profound effect on the quality of life in the state.

You can pick up the cards at your nearest participating library’s checkout which you can find on this interactive map. This will give you free vehicle day-use entry for one passenger vehicle with a capacity of nine people or less or one highway licensed motorcycle. You’ll need to be a library patron and California resident to be eligible for the pass.
Parks that are excluded from the program are any that are units operated by federal and local government, private agencies or concessionaires, state vehicular recreation areas, parks not open to the public, for per-person entry or tour fees (like museums), or at parks that do not have day-use vehicle fees. You can find a full list of ineligible parks here.
