Los Angeles is eagerly preparing for the long-awaited opening of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, which is equipped with 30 galleries and a free library. While the highly anticipated museum, created by famed filmmaker George Lucas and his wife, Mellody Hobson, is set to open in Los Angelous, the George Lucas film production company, Lucasfilm, is headquartered in San Francisco.
Yoda Fountain in San Francisco
The production company has multiple locations, though its headquarters is in San Francisco’s historic Presidio. The studio’s campus is large, but it’s best known for a large Yoda Fountain that pays homage to George Lucas’ iconic Star Wars films. The fountain sits outside the main entrance to the headquarters and is open to the public. Inside the lobby, fans can find an array of Star Wars memorabilia. In the past, the lobby was open to the public, but it has been known to close at times, so beware: you may not be able to enter the lobby when visiting.
Lucasfilm opened its San Francisco headquarters in 2005; however, it has been in the Bay Area much longer. In the mid 1980s, the company opened Skywalker Ranch, a movie ranch and workplace located just 40 minutes north of San Francisco in Marin County.
The Yoda statue is a popular photo spot for tourists (and Star Wars fans) and is within walking distance of many scenic viewpoints in the Presidio.
Just a short walk away sits the newly renovated Presidio Tunnel Tops, which offers an incredible view of the Golden Gate Bridge, along with manicured gardens and plenty of spots to sit and enjoy the view. Right next door, the long-awaited Presidio Mess Hall recently opened, home to several food vendors serving sandwiches, seafood, and Korean street food dishes.
The Yoda Fountain is located at 1 Letterman Dr in the Presidio.
