San Francisco’s scenic new park, Presidio Tunnel Tops, is opening its long-awaited new dining destination this weekend!
The Mess Hall at the Presidio will open this Saturday, August 15, inside a historic former U.S. Army depot overlooking Crissy Field at 201 Halleck Street.
Development for the Mess Hall began about 4 years ago, and the venue was initially expected to open in June. Now, the 6,200-square-foot food hall is finally ready to welcome visitors with breakfast, lunch, dinner, and cocktails.
From breakfast to cocktails
Founding partners Nate Leonard and Rob Gaon collaborated with James Beard-winning chef Peter Serpico in developing the Mess Hall food program. The hall’s three main food concepts are:
- Breadwinner, a gourmet sandwich and burger counter
- Dayboat, serving fresh seafood dishes
- Boda, with dishes inspired by Korean street food
The restaurants operate under a single open kitchen and ordering system, so diners can mix and match food from multiple menus on one tab.
In addition to its three main food concepts, the building will serve as a neighborhood market with grab-and-go food, picnic supplies, and basic groceries. The coffee shop will serve Wrecking Ball coffee and pastries from Breadbelly, while the bar will pour craft cocktails and local beers and wines.
The restored 1897 building retains many original details, including the wood flooring, and a wooden frame now used to support the coffee bar. According to the San Francisco Standard, the 6,200-square-foot building will have 88 seats indoors and another 120 outside facing the bay.
