Free outdoor movie screenings are always a delightful way to spend a warm evening in SF, and we’re in luck this weekend. Lafayette Park, known for its scenic Hilltop views and manicured lawns, is hosting a screening of the beloved comedy Mrs. Doubtfire this weekend.
The screening is this Saturday, September 14 at 7:00 pm. The park’s outdoor amphitheater will host the movie, which features a multilevel lawn for easy viewing. Along with the screening of the heartfelt comedy that’s famously set in SF, free popcorn will be provided for viewers.
Mrs. Doubtfire features beloved actor Robin Williams in this 1993 comedy-drama film that was an instant classic. The movie is set in SF and includes plenty of scenes of iconic SF spots, including a classic cable car ride.
The event is family-friendly and open to the public, so if you’re looking for free plans this weekend, we recommend it. Plus, it’s a chance to take advantage of the nice weather while it lasts.
The history of Lafayette park goes back to the 1860s, but it didn’t become a public park until 1936, aside from an apartment building that remains on the park. The park is perched on the hilltop in Pacific Heights, and continues to be a popular gathering space for residents. Tennis courts, a children’s play area, picnic spots, are just a few of the amenities the historic park offers.
San Francisco has more free movie nights in store thanks to Sundown Cinema. The movie series just hosted a screening in Duboce Park and has an upcoming screening at India Basin Waterfront featuring the Disney movie The Princess and the Frog on October 4 and a special screening later in October for Halloween. Plus, you can see free Shakespeare performances in the park through next week if you’re looking for more exciting shows.
