NPS sites and parks to visit around the Bay Area
While hundreds of NPS sites will offer free admission on June 19th, San Franciscans may take advantage of this deal to visit some absolute gems in NorCal. Here are a few to consider visiting:
- San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park – This NPS site is found right here on San Francisco’s Hyde Street Pier, where you can board historic ships including the U.S.S. Pampanito, a U.S. Navy submarine.
- Muir Woods National Monument – Hike through an expansive forest of old growth redwoods in this famous Bay Area forest. Most of the six miles of trails are boardwalked or asphalted, making for easier walking conditions. You can reach Muir Woods in about 40 minutes by car from SF.
- Pinnacles National Park – This fascinating rocky landscape was born from volcanoes sixty million years ago, and it’s a scenic destination for nature lovers to explore steep ravines, caves, towering rock walls, and canyons. The park is located in Salinas Valley, about 2.5 hours from SF by car.
