Oakland’s Laurel District is gearing up for one of its biggest annual parties tomorrow: the 25th annual Laurel StreetFair World Music Festival!
From 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 8, the festival will take over eight blocks of MacArthur Boulevard with live musical performances, international dance, food vendors, artists, local makers, and activities for every age.
The Laurel StreetFair is free to attend and is expected to bring more than 17,000 people to the neighborhood. It is also a community fundraiser, with proceeds supporting Laurel District improvements such as public art, streetscape projects, cleanup efforts, and promotion for local small businesses.
Eight blocks of music, makers, and movement
Organizers describe the Laurel StreetFair as a celebration of global music, folkloric traditions, and the diversity of Bay Area communities. Visitors can wander through eight city blocks packed with live performances, artisan booths, nonprofit tables, cuisine vendors, and retail pop-ups.
Some highlights include special activity areas, from the Black Cultural Zone’s Akoma Market and roller skating to the engaging Kids’ Carnival zone for families and a Healing Village by Freedom Community Clinic.
Adults can pick up a specialty cocktail or beer from the CA Draft Tech Beer Garden, roam the on-site vendors, and watch engaging all-day dance performances from local groups like the Afro-Brazilian Sambafunk! and Punjabi dance organization Non Stop Bhangra.
