This Gorgeous Animal Lantern Festival Is Back At Oakland Zoo

The Bay Area is going all out on holiday light displays this year, and this animal-themed lantern festival at Oakland Zoo is seriously blowing us away!

Glowfari is an immersive light experience of epic proportions, and kids and adults alike will enjoy exploring the massive glowing displays. Check it out now through the end of January 2022.

Hundreds of gigantic hand-painted animal lanterns have been placed throughout the zoo’s campus, making for a totally unique tour of the zoo by night. The spectacular lanterns are arranged throughout a mile-long pathway, taking you through a desert scene with camels and bighorn sheep; an African safari with elephants, giraffes, and an 8-foot crocodile head; and an Asian forest scene with red and giant pandas.

Don’t forget to ride a gondola to the land of bugs, where you’ll see massive 65-foot-tall Queen Ant tunnel! Visitors can also take the Express Train to the Rides Area, where they’ll be greeted by Santa in a Winter Wonderland.

Glowfari is a special display happening after Oakland Zoo hours, so there will be no live animals to see as part of the event. Tickets cost $24 for adults and $20 for children and seniors. Children under 2 and adults over 76 get in free, and members get a 10% discount.

You can see Glowfari from 5-10pm almost nightly through December (excepting Christmas Eve and Christmas Day) and Wednesday-Sunday through the end of January.
