This weekend is set to be a busy one in San Francisco, with the city hosting the Outside Lands festival and a visit from Vice President Kamala Harris for a campaign event. Here are some tips and road closures you should know about in SF.
Kamala Harris campaign visit closures
Vice President Kamala Harris will appear in San Francisco this Sunday, August 11th for a private fundraiser, according to an online invitation for the event posted by Harris’ fundraising committee. According to the SF Chronicle, Harris, a Bay Area native who formerly served as the city’s District Attorney, is expected to arrive on Saturday, August 10, and leave on Sunday, August 11.
Due to security measures, specific details about the event location and possible street closures have not been disclosed as of yet. An address will be revealed to attendees upon RSVPing for the event, and the cost of admission ranges between $3,300 and $500,000 donations.
Outside Lands 2024 closures
The annual Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival will take place from August 9 to 11, 2024, at Golden Gate Park. The event is expected to attract around 75,000 people each day. Headliners include The Killers, Sabrina Carpenter, Sturgill Simpson, Chappell Roan, Kaytranada, Jungle, and Chris Lake.
Road Closures
From Friday, August 9 to Sunday, August 11, vehicle access to Golden Gate Park will be limited, with several roads closed to the public:
- JFK Drive from Transverse to 36th Avenue will be closed from Monday, August 5 to Wednesday, August 14.
- All roads in the west side of the park from Transverse Drive to the Great Highway will be closed starting Thursday at 8:00 pm until Sunday at 11:00 pm.

- 30th Avenue
- 36th Avenue

Transportation Alternatives
To help with the influx of visitors, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) is expanding transportation options:
Muni Service
Extra service on the N-Judah and 5R Fulton Rapid, with 5X Fulton Express service from Golden Gate Park to Civic Center BART station each night of the festival.
Taxi Stands
Temporary stands will be available from Friday at 9 a.m. to Monday at 2 a.m. at the following locations:
- Southside of Fulton Street between 28th and 29th Avenues
- Southside of Fulton Street between 24th and 25th Avenues
- Northside of Fulton Street between 33rd and 34th Avenues
- Northside of Irving Street between 26th and 27th Avenues
Additionally, an Active Transportation Hub featuring bike parking, and bike- and scooter-share services, will be available and located north of Hellman Hollow.
