San Francisco first introduced entertainment zones in 2024, and since then, they’ve hosted numerous free block parties and events. The Front Street entertainment zone has been bustling, with numerous free block parties on Friday evenings and even an Oktoberfest celebration recently. Now, a new entertainment zone on the SF waterfront is hosting its debut party this weekend. PIER 39 is an iconic tourist destination in San Francisco, well known for its barking sea lions, seafood restaurants, and more.

The new entertainment zone is celebrating its 47th anniversary this Saturday, October 4, from 12 to 8 pm. While the party will have to-go drinks for adults, it’s still a family-friendly affair. You can expect arts and crafts, face painting, and a silent disco. From 12 to 4 pm, you can expect a DJ playing 80s dance hits that are perfect for dancing. The party will end with live music from the band Fast Times, performing nostalgic hits from artists like Whitney Houston, Prince, Madonna, Michael Jackson, and more.
“We are delighted to kick-off the first Entertainment Zone on the Waterfront,” said Scott Gentner, President and CEO of PIER 39. “We are excited for the opportunity to bring more people to the Waterfront and The PIER. For 47 years PIER 39 has been an entertainment hub in the city making this celebration a natural fit.”
While you’re at the pier, we recommend exploring some of the local shops and restaurants, including Boudin Bakery Café, Humble Sea Brewing Co., and Pier Market Seafood Restaurant. You can also expect to see street performers at the pier throughout the Saturday celebration, and be sure to stop by the carousel. PIER 39 opened in 1978, with 50 stores and 23 restaurants, including a diving pool and street performers. Now, the pier has over 90 shops and a dozen full-service restaurants.
