Every year, a massive pink triangle is installed on top of Twin Peaks during Pride Month. The large-scale installation is an important symbol during Pride month, and can be seen from up to 20 miles away. The Pink Triangle recently opened for 2026 this weekend. Keep reading to learn more.
The Pink Triangle
The Pink Triangle is 200 feet wide, made up of pink canvas, and covers a total of one acre. The installation has been a tradition for over 30 years, debuting in 1995. This year’s installation opened this weekend, on Saturday, June 6, and will be on display until June 28. You can see The Pink Triangle at various parts in San Francisco, but we also recommend making the trip to Twin Peaks to see it up close. Twin Peaks is accessible by car, or many people opt to walk up to the scenic outlook.
The symbol was originally used for oppression, but has since been reclaimed by the LGBTQ+ community. The pink triangle symbol was used Nazi’s during WWII to identify queer people in concentration camps. When the war ended, many prisoners in concentration camps labeled with the pink triangle were actually put into jail. Today, the installation is intended to spark conversations around hate crimes.
