Prince Harry Hired At San Francisco Company BetterUp

We may now have royalty in Silicon Valley.

Following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s famous exodus from the royal family, they were stuck looking at new options for making an income. After the couple signed deals with both Netflix and Spotify, Harry has found employment as Chief Impact Officer for the Silicon Valley startup BetterUp, which helps companies improve potential and efficiency by coaching their employees on a “personalized path for growth.” The company lists him as a member of the leadership team on their website.

BetterUp released a statement Tuesday afternoon explaining Harry’s position and goals with the company.

“It is with great pleasure and excitement that we welcome our first Chief Impact Officer: Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex. We are energized by his model of inspiration and impact through action,” wrote BetterUp CEO Alexi Robichaux. “As a true citizen of the world, he has dedicated his life’s work to bringing attention to the diverse needs of people everywhere and advocating for mental health initiatives.”

“What I’ve learned in my own life is the power of transforming pain into purpose,” wrote Prince Harry himself in the statement. “During my decade in the military, I learned that we don’t just need to build physical resilience, but also mental resilience. And in the years since, my understanding of what resilience means — and how we can build it — has been shaped by the thousands of people and experts I’ve been fortunate to meet and learn from.”

Harry went on to explain that he has been using the app itself and working with one of the BetterUp coaches. Harry has been famously vocal about the struggles he’s had with mental health since his mother, Princess Diana, died tragically when he was just 12 years old. After Meghan Markle’s famous interview with Oprah revealing past suicidal thoughts, Harry’s position at this company promoting mental health and a work-life balance fits especially well with his values.

According to BetterUp’s website, the company “brings together world-class coaching, AI technology, and behavioral science experts to deliver change at scale.” They aim to help people live “more meaningful, vibrant lives with greater clarity, purpose, and passion.”

In BetterUp’s company statement, Prince Harry went on to explain his plans to expand the company’s reach and place emphasis on mental fitness. He will act largely as a public face of the company and encourage people to become “the best version of ourselves, with whatever life throws at us.”

Good luck to Prince Harry on his new adventure!
