“Samin’s Summer Pie” features Calabrian chiles, confit tomatoes, and garlic ricotta.
Award-winning chef, cookbook author and TV host Samin Nosrat is a huge name in the nation’s cooking scene. She has a special place in Bay Area hearts, having attended UC Berkeley and gotten her culinary start at Chez Panisse under the mentorship of Alice Waters.
Well, lucky for us, Nosrat has a special summer treat in store for the Bay Area! Square Pie Guys, a neighborhood favorite for Detroit-style square pizza, just announced an awesome collaboration with the famous chef. “Samin’s Summer Pizza” will be available through the rest of the summer season, and you can pick it up at both their Oakland and San Francisco locations.
This delicious pizza consists of a garlic ricotta cream base, which is a favorite at Square Pie Guys. Samin’s taste comes through in the Calabrian chiles and confit cherry tomatoes, topped with torn basil and a pepper vinaigrette! These fresh, punchy flavors make for a perfect summer treat in the Bay. There’s also a “Samin’s Vegan Pie” option, with many of the same ingredients but swapping out the ricotta for vegan cheese.
If that weren’t enough, Square Pie Guys will donate 5% of sales from this pizza, which Nosrat will match. The proceeds will go to theCooperative Food Empowerment Directive (CoFED), a local QTBIPOC-led organization that builds land and food co-ops in partnership with young people of color.
Square Pie Guys has one more summer pizza that’s also worth keeping an eye on! The Za’atar Chicken Pizza has white sauce with roasted chicken, za’atar seasoning, cherry tomatoes, olives, peppers, and a tahini drizzle. Other summer items include zesty Cotija corn ribs, a summer peach salad, and peach monkey bread!
Find Square Pie Guys at 1077 Mission St in San Francisco, and 499 9th Street in Oakland.
