The San FranDISCO roller rink opened back in October 2022 as a fun new attraction in Fulton Plaza. The 5,000-square-foot roller rink will officially come down at the end of the month, so make sure you check it out before it closes on March 31, 2023. Skaters can enjoy disco lights, music from local DJs, and more at the outdoor covered rink.
San FranDISCO is a collaboration between SF’s popular Church of 8 Wheels and the Civic Center Community Benefit District (CCCBD), part of the city’s Economic Development Plan to bring more life back into Downtown SF. It opened on October 15, 2022 with Mayor London Breed and more in attendance. The rink was part of a 3-month pilot program that was extended into March, but alas the time has come to say goodbye.
The rink is equipped with high-quality flooring, a skate rental kiosk, public seating, restrooms, and an expansive canopy to protect skaters from the elements.
Civic Center Plaza itself is has some exciting events and attractions to accompany the rink, including a coffee kiosk, weekday musical performances, and food trucks. The Heart of the City Farmers’ Market will continue to operate out of nearby UN Plaza on Wednesdays and Sundays.
San FranDISCO is open Wednesdays through Sundays from 12-8pm, with 90-minute skate sessions led by instructors at 12pm, 2pm, and 4pm; and a 2-hour session at 6pm.
General admission is $15 for skaters 18 and up, which includes skate rental. Youth under 18 can skate for $5.
“I’m happy our families, kids, and residents are going to be able to come down to roller skate right across from City Hall at Fulton Plaza,” said Mayor Breed.
“It’s a new day for outdoor skating in San Francisco and the entire Bay Area skate community is buzzing.” said Church of 8 Wheels founder David Miles. “This downtown rink, which is opening during National Roller-Skating month, is new, fresh, very San Francisco and will connect even more people to our City’s skate culture and one another.”
