One of San Francisco’s most whimsical events is coming up on Easter Sunday, the infamous Bring Your Own Big Wheel race. Every year, San Franciscans flock to the city’s most crooked street, diving down the winding hill on big wheel bikes.
The event is chaotic and wacky in true San Francisco fashion. With adults on comically small big wheel bikes, careening down the ridiculously winding street. If that wasn’t enough, people often wear wild costumes, with no other theme than amping up the chaotic fun.
The Bring Your Own Big Wheel Race for 2026 is on Sunday, April 6, and the event is free. The race will take place on Vermont Street in Potrero Hills, which holds the title of the most crooked street in the city.

If you want to join the race, the event is free, and you can register online. Of course, the event is still plenty of fun for spectators as well, if you want to head to the street to watch the whimsical race.
The event is family-friendly, with a children’s race before the main event. Children will ride down the hill from 2 to 3 p.m., and adults will race from 3 to 5 pm on Sunday. Head to Vermont St at 20th St for the start of the race.
About Bring Your Own Big Wheel

Bring Your Own Big Wheel is a volunteer-run event; it has always been free and has no vendors or sponsorship: organizers run it just for the fun of it. The event is free, though organizers encourage donations to help cover the costs of putting it on each year.
If you plan on joining the race, be sure to bring a helmet, and organizers also recommend work gloves and pads for your elbows and knees. We recommend taking public transit or ride share, as the area has very limited parking.
