The summer solstice is officially here, marking the beginning of summer on Thursday, June 20, 2024. The solstice marks the official beginning of summer and is the longest day of the year.
If you’ve been enjoying the longer days lately, SF will see its latest sunset of the year tonight at 8:35 pm. The extra hours of light are always welcome, and the long days will last for the rest of the summer. SF will still see 8:30 pm sunsets well into July, and the last 8:00 pm sunset in the Bay Area isn’t until mid-August. So there’s still plenty of time to enjoy the long summer days.
Sunset spots in San Francisco
watching a great sunset in the summer is always fun, and if you want to take advantage of theses late setting times there are some pretty spectacular viewing spots in the SF.
- Twin Peaks: This popular lookout offers beautiful views of the city and the bay, perfect for observing a sunset. Plus, you can view the iconic Pink Triangle on display for Pride Month.
- Land’s End: Land’s End is well-known for its incredible ocean views in a secluded spot. Plus, there are great places to take a short walk around the lookout.
- Baker Beach: Baker Beach has some of the best views of the Golden Gate Bridge, and the beautiful, sprawling beach is perfect for a picnic while watching the sun go down.
- Corona Heights Park: This beautiful park has a view of the city similar to Twin Peaks but with a more central location. Perched atop a hill with rocky terrain, it gives a pretty incredible view of SF for a sunset.
- and more…
Plus, a rare Strawberry Full Moon will rise over SF tomorrow night, just a day after the Summer Solstice. This is a fairly rare occurrence, with the June full moon and the solstice only coinciding every few years.
