SFMOMA, San Francisco’s massive modern art museum, regularly draws thousands of visitors to see its expansive art collection. The museum features multiple permanent galleries, with works from famed artists like Yayoi Kusama, Ruth Asawa, Mark Rothko, and many more.
Earlier this week, the museum announced an exciting new development: a new restaurant in partnership with the beloved SF bakery Jane the Bakery. The new restaurant, aptly called Jane on Third, will open on the museum’s ground floor in August 2025.
“Like SFMOMA, Jane is a true San Francisco institution and a treasured gathering space for visitors. With its dedication to community welcome, fresh ingredients, and delightful baked creations, we could think of no better partner for our ground floor restaurant,” said Sheila Shin, SFMOMA’s Chief Operating Officer. “We look forward to introducing this exciting new partnership to enhance the Yerba Buena neighborhood and our visitors’ experience at SFMOMA.”
Brunch, salads and bowls, and sandwiches are all on the menu, featuring dishes like a quiche of the day, mango chicken salad on a baguette, and French toast. Patrons will have the option to dine in or take out, and you can choose from an indoor dining room or outdoor seating. The new restaurant will be open to the public, and guests do not need an admission ticket to dine in. SFMOMA also offers 45,000 square feet of free space that offers public art.

To celebrate the new restaurant opening, the museum has commissioned a mural from local artist Chelsea Ryoko Wong. Wong is known for her lively scenes with people commingling, and has previously had work displayed at the museum’s 2024 Art Bash.
Jane on Third will open this August and welcome guests seven days a week. You can try the new restaurant without purchasing a ticket for the museum, but we recommend stopping by some of the museum’s beautiful galleries on the third Thursday of every month for free admission.
