San Francisco’s favorite drag nuns, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, are back for their fabulously fun Easter celebration. on Sunday, April 20. Celebrity guest emcee Honey Mahogany will officiate an amazing celebration that includes a children’s Easter egg hunt and more activities from 10:30-11:00 am, followed by a series of contests from 12-4 pm, including the Foxy Mary contest, the Easter Bonnet contest, and the highly-anticipated Hunky Jesus contest.
This is the 46th annual Sisters’ Easter celebration, with this year’s theme “No Easter without the T.” Emcee Honey Mahogany will host the festivities alongside Sister Roma, Alex U Inn, and more. Embracing this year’s theme, the event will include transgender and gender-nonconforming performers such as trans opera star Breanna Elyse Sinclair, The Momma’s Boyz featuring Ariel B. and Lambert, and Pansy Division.
The children’s celebration from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. will include an Easter egg hunt, storytime, and relay games. After the morning festivities, the day tends to be more adult-oriented, but rest assured, the Sisters prohibit profanity and nudity.
The main event is from 12-4 p.m., in which contestants can strut their stuff in their Easter Bonnets or as Hunky Jesus and Foxy Mary. Contestants need simply arrive in their Sunday best (read: hunkiest and foxiest Biblical costumes) and line up backstage for an initial screening. The crowd-favorite Hunky Jesus Contest will be at 3 p.m. Dolores Park is usually packed with people celebrating, so expect big crowds for the Sunday event. The event is free and open to all, and anyone is welcome to enter the beloved contests.
The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are a self-proclaimed “21st-century Order of Nuns” and nonprofit organization dedicated to the community. They have been in action since 1979, when they first appeared in San Francisco on Easter Sunday, and haven’t stopped since! Over the decades, the Sisters have raised millions of dollars for various local community causes.
The event draws large crowds every year, so we recommend taking public transit to the park. The Sisters also urge everyone to be respectful of the parks, meaning no smoking or littering. You can find the event details here for the Sister’s Easter in the Park on April 20th, 2025.
