While Black Friday is well known as a major shopping day, both for holiday gifts and personal purchases, many of the most prominent deals come from large-scale retailers. In response, Small Business Saturday aims to spotlight local small businesses. So, if you plan on starting your holiday shopping this weekend, make sure to check out some of the many small businesses in San Francisco. For a few of our favorite small businesses to shop during the holidays, check out this list of unique boutiques in the city. Read on for more recommendations on where to shop local this weekend.
Women-owned businesses

San Francisco has plenty of excellent shops owned by women, including stores with eclectic gifts and goods like post.script, a stationery and gift store that features candles, and other small goods perfect for gifts. We also recommend Nest on Filmore Street, which is packed with whimsical home decor, ornaments, accessories, and more.
LGBTQ+-owned businesses
If you want to support LGBTQ+ owned businesses this holiday season, we recommend checking out modern design store Super Simple for stylish home furnishings, or SF Plants, which offers a variety of plants perfect for a friend with a green thumb.
Black-owned businesses
Relove Vintage offers a large selection of vintage and designer clothing, making it easy to find a stylish gift. We also recommend stopping by Excelsior Coffee or Red Bay Coffee for a midday caffeine kick.
Independent book stores

If you’re planning on buying someone a book this holiday season, we recommend stopping by one of SF’s wonderful independent bookstores. In North Beach, City Lights Booksellers has a room just for poetry, and Borderlands Books specializes in fantasy, sci-fi, and horror in Haight-Ashbury.
Vintage shops
Whether you’re looking for vintage jewelry or just a unique dress for the holidays, SF’s numerous vintage shops have plenty of great options. We recommend checking out Decades of Fashion, which is packed with authentic vintage clothing, or Missing Audrey Vintage in North Beach, which has a range of styles and accessories.
If you plan to stop by multiple shops in one day, you can also pick a neighborhood to explore, making it easier to walk between stores. Check out our list of the best shopping streets in neighborhoods across the city.
