Located on the University of San Francisco campus, the St Ignatius is San Francisco’s “Beacon On The Hill”. Not only is it architecturally striking, but it also acts as special hub for the community, offering togetherness during times where true connection it feels very difficult to find. The storied landmark showcases distinctive architectural style, blending Italian Renaissance Revival and Spanish Revival elements.
Despite being built in 1914, the church today is progressive in its thinking in a way many others aren’t. St Ignatius is committed to social justice, tackling critical issues such as climate change, racial justice, and LGBTQ+ rights. As well as offering its ‘Shelter Meal Program’ at the moment, the church is also a host of the iconic Candlelight concert series. In a city often draped in grey clouds, and at a time when the news seems endlessly bleak, St. Ignatius Church stands as a true beacon of hope.
