Guy Bass’s bestselling children’s book series, Stitch Head, hits theaters this Wednesday, October 29th! Asa Butterfield stars as the titular character in this whimsically eerie tale inspired by Frankenstein.
Tens of thousands of kids grew up with the unforgettable books, but this highly anticipated animated film provides a new opportunity for fans to connect with the story. Make sure you get tickets to see Stitch Head at a theater near you—just in time for Halloween.
The kid-friendly Frankenstein
Stitch Head reimagines the legend of Frankenstein with a playful plot that riffs on the best dynamics from the original story. Like Frankenstein’s monster, the Stitch Head character was assembled and animated by a mad genius, and is portrayed sympathetically as a misunderstood outsider.
Stitch Head lives with the mad professor and a cast of other friendly monster creations in a mysterious castle perched above the town of Grubbers Nubbin. But trouble befalls the group when ringmaster Fulbert Freakfinder rolls into town with a scheme to kidnap the monsters for his traveling freak show. Can the monsters foil his plan?
While Stitch Head explores themes of friendship, bravery, and belonging, it also touches on some of Frankenstein‘s deeper motifs of alienation and fear of the “other.”
The film is directed by Steve Hudson, starring Asa Butterfield as the voice of the protagonist, as well as supporting roles from Joel Fry and Tia Bannon.
