There’s a new outdoor ice skating rink in town! Thrive City at Chase Center has announced a brand-new synthetic ice rink as part of their popular Winter Wonderland event. Union Square is the only other outdoor holiday ice rink in the city, so this is a big deal for SF’s most enthusiastic ice skaters.
The free ice rink will only be open on select dates between Dec. 9-26, 2023, so you’ll need to RSVP and get there early for a chance to hit the ice. Skate sessions are limited to 20-30 minutes per person and complimentary skate rentals will be available. Certain dates have a lively DJ Skate Party planned in the afternoon.
Due to the ice rink’s popularity, nearly all skate times have already maxed out their online registration over a month in advance. Guests who RSVP’d will have priority to hit the ice, but a limited amount of walk-ups will be available each day. As of this article’s publish date, you can still snag some spots on Monday, Dec. 18 and Wednesday, Dec. 20. A Thrive City press release tells us that they may release more ice rink dates depending on game schedules, so keep a close eye on the Winter Wonderland page.
Thrive City’s Winter Wonderland programing certainly doesn’t stop at the ice rink. Here’s a quick rundown of what else to look for on the Warriors’ home territory:
- Nov. 29 – Tree Lighting Ceremony – Thrive City’s third annual tree lighting ceremony will celebrate the Bay Area’s tallest holiday tree which towers 90 feet into the air. The two-hour celebration features holiday food and drink, live music from Darryl McDaniels, performers from the Warriors Dance Team, holiday choirs, and more.
- Dec. 7 – Hanukkah Celebration – Celebrate the Festival of Lights with a menorah lighting ceremony, live entertainment, festive arts and crafts, and Jewish treats.
- Dec. 31 – Kwanzaa and Noon Year’s Eve Celebration – Celebrate Kwanzaa and ring in 2024 with a daytime concert featuring Soji Sai Afrobeat.
