This summer, SF neighborhoods have been filled with local musicians playing to San Franciscans outside local businesses. You’ll find the mini concerts dotted throughout the city, brightening up each neighborhood with their shows. The program, called the Summer of Music, is coming to a close, but not without a showstopping finale. Thundercat, the Grammy-winning singer and record producer, will perform a free concert in Golden Gate Park to celebrate the end of the Summer of Music. Lee Fields, the iconic soul singer, and seven-piece cumbia band Combo Tezeta, will open the outdoor concert.
The free show will take over Robin Williams Meadow on Sunday, October 20 from 12:30 to 6 pm. The daytime show is free to the public and open to all ages as a way to celebrate another successful year of free neighborhood shows from the Summer of Music program. No tickets are necessary, but organizers highly recommend RSVPing to the show.
Plus, local musicians who participated in the Summer of Music will also perform at the afternoon of free music. Local businesses and vendors will also be in attendance along with delicious food trucks to round out the afternoon affair.
The free show is the work of Bay Area music promoter Noise Pop and Civic Joy Fund. The two organizations collaborated to create free shows in SF neighborhoods every weekend featuring local musicians. The program is intended to give local musicians paid performances while increasing foot traffic for local businesses.
“I’m so excited for this event and so proud of the entire Summer of Music series. It’s exactly what the Civic Joy Fund is all about – celebrating what makes San Francisco great, together,” said Manny Yekutiel, Executive Director of Civic Joy Fund and co-founder of Summer of Music.
