One of San Francisco’s longstanding, beloved neighborhood bars is up for sale. Compass Reality recently posted a listing for Toronado, a small bar in the Lower Haight with a big reputation. The bar is a favorite of SF locals who frequently go to enjoy their large selection of beer.
After decades of success, Dave Keene, the bar owner, has decided to retire and sell the beloved bar. Keene founded the bar on Haight Street over 30 years ago and has since gained many loyal customers. According to Compass Reality, the space and business are priced at $1.75 million. The sale includes the two-unit commercial building, totaling 2,900 square feet.
Toronado is known for its expansive selection of beer, with 50 taps, three hand pulls, and over 90 cans offered on the menu. The bar is decorated with years of ale signs, stickers, and vintage bottles, and you can regularly find people sipping on California brews in their outdoor area on Haight Street. Toronado was visited by Anthony Bourdain during one of his trips to SF and featured in his show The Layover. Bourdain noted Toronado’s reputation for being a day drinking hub, stating, “Daytime drinking is a tradition here, as it is in any great city.”
If you want to visit the iconic pub, we recommend checking it out during SF Beer Week, when plenty of special events are happening. The pub is hosting an opening gala on February 7 featuring new beers from Monkish, Cellarmaker, and more. The bar is also set to host a Super Bowl Party on Sunday, February 9, if you’re looking for the perfect spot to watch the big game. You can find the bar at 547 Haight St, open from 11:30 am to 2 am. You can learn more about the Toronada listing on Compass Reality’s website.
