The Bay Area has some iconic holiday traditions, but none so impressive as the mind-blowing 50-foot crystal tree that’s usually hanging upside-down inside Westfield SF Centre by now. If you’re like us then you’ve eagerly been awaiting its return for 2022, but unfortunately we’ve learned from Westfield that the popular display will not be installed this year.
The glittering tree is one of the most jaw-dropping light displays in San Francisco, an impressive feat considering the competition. The “tree” is actually an enormous cone-shaped chandelier, which is especially stunning beneath the famous building’s historic glass dome and 100-foot-high ceilings. We still don’t know the reason for its absence, or whether we can expect it to come back in 2023, but stay tuned as we await more details.
Although the tree won’t be back, Westfield does have some fun holiday events happening this weekend over in San Jose’s Westfield Valley Fair. A Winter Nights Holiday Celebration will host special attractions including ornament engraving, live music, carolers, aerial artists, snowfall, and a light show. They’ll also have face painting, a juggling elf, and a balloon animal artist for the kids. Check it out from 3-8pm on Friday, December 2; and 2-8pm on Saturday, December 3.
As for Westfield SF Centre, you can of course still get your holiday shopping done beneath the center’s gorgeous glass dome. Consider visiting on December 17, when they host their monthly Joy Reserve Maker’s Market — it’s an opportunity for some last-minute holiday shopping from over 40 brands.
The shopping center is usually open from 10am-8pm daily, but make sure to check their website for special hours during the holidays.
