The Wave Collective is a space dedicated to emerging artists, whether featuring work in their gallery or hosting classes, workshops, and events for budding artists and seasoned professionals. Located in the Lower Haight, the space initially started as a popup that became a permanent installation.
The founders started Wave Collective in September of 2022 with a vision to create a space that helps new local artists break into the ever-elusive art world. Co-founders Jamila Keba and Jenna Melnyk are both artists themselves, running the WAVE Collective, in addition to their day jobs. Wave started in a small space on Haight Street and, in September 2023, moved to a larger space just a few blocks down the street.
Upcoming events and shows at Wave.
Wave offers a variety of events open to the public, including fun workshops, classes, and art-focused events. You can join a poetry circle, stain glass workshop, or drawing class, and many more. We recommend taking a look at their event calendar to keep up with current offerings. If you’re interested in hosting an event that has a focus on creativity, you can reach out to the collective directly.
Wave has a group show of the collective’s members artwork beginning on February 1st. You can check out local artists breaking into the industry, and it’s a great way to dive into SF’s art scene. The collective only takes 25% of sales on gallery shows, a much lower percentage than most fine art galleries in the art industry.
How to get involved
Members of the collective are eligible to have their work in shows (although it’s not guaranteed due to limited space). There are two levels of membership, one at just $10 a month and another at $100 a month, called a studio membership. Studio memberships typically give you more access to the space, such as booking a desk and taking advantage of extended hours.
WAVE focuses on inclusivity, and in that spirit, if the $10 monthly membership is too costly, you can join their work-trade program.
Wave is located at 663 Haight St and is open Friday and Saturday from 1 pm to 6 pm.
