The 2026 World Cup enters its second day on Friday, June 12, with a tidy two-match card rounding out the opening games for the host nations. Mexico got things underway yesterday, but now the United States and Canada step into the tournament, and the Bay Area gets an early taste before the action reaches Santa Clara tomorrow.
This evening, the USA takes on Paraguay in the Group D opener at SoFi Stadium — the Americans’ first World Cup match on home soil since 1994, played in prime time.
Earlier in the day, Canada opens Group B against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto, the co-hosts’ first glimpse of a group that still includes Qatar and Switzerland.
Fan Zones and sports bars will be screening both matches at watch parties all over the Bay Area, from Thrive City to the San Pedro Square Market. Read our World Cup guide for more local events.
